Man in critical condition after motorcycle crash on Highway 50

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Jefferson City man is in critical condition after he crashed his motorcycle Monday on Highway 50 in Jefferson City, according to a press release from the Jefferson City Police Department.

Shane Steck, 43, was injured in the crash. He was not wearing a helmet, according to police. He was brought to a helicopter by ambulance, and was then flown to a hospital in Columbia, the release stated.

A motorcycle was located on its side in the eastbound lanes and Steck was lying in the roadway in the westbound lanes when emergency personnel arrived. Police stated Steck was heading eastbound on US 50 – on a 2006 Yamaha V Star motorcycle -- when he went off the roadway and hit the center concrete divider. He was launched from the motorcycle and landed in the westbound lanes, the release stated.

Police said in the release that Steck had critical injuries to his head and left arm.

The motorcycle had extensive damage.
