Jefferson City accepting applications for vacant Ward 4 City Council seat
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
Jefferson City is seeking a representative for Ward 4.
With the election of Mayor Ron Fitzwater – who was the Ward 4 councilman -- there is now a vacant seat on the council.
The press release quoted the City Charter, “A vacancy in the council shall be filled by the council by a majority vote of all its remaining members for a period extending to the next municipal general election at which time a person shall be elected to serve the remainder of the term,"
The City issued a press release Tuesday laying out guidelines for those who would like to seek an appointment to the City Council. The City Charter and City Code requires:
• Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of election (or appointment).
• Be a U.S. citizen and a qualified voter of the City.
• Must have lived in the City for at least a year before the election (or appointment).
• Lived in the ward for six months prior to the election (or appointment).
• No outstanding debts to the City, nor ever been guilty of misappropriation of funds in office or been removed from a seat on the Council.
Applications will be accepted by the City Clerk until 5 p.m. Monday, May 1. Applicants will appear have to appear at the May 1 City Council meeting for a brief introduction and answer a few questions. The City Council expects to make a decision and appointment at the May 15 meeting, according to the release.
An application must include a cover letter, resume, three notarized candidate endorsements and two forms of identification showing name and address to the City Clerk (driver’s license, Social Security Card, or other form of photo I.D. will be acceptable).
