Police say 4 hurt when car runs stop sign in Jefferson City; 1 flown to hospital

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Four people were hurt Sunday when a car didn't stop at a Jefferson City stop sign, causing a collision.

The crash happened when a Chevrolet Impala drove through the sign at McCarty Street and Vetter Lane and into the path of a Ford Explorer, Jefferson City police say in a news release.

The driver of the Explorer, Elise Williams, 25, of Jefferson City, was flown to University Hospital, police say. She was trapped and had to be extricated from her vehicle, according to the release.

Two passengers in her vehicle were also hospitalized.

The Impala driver, Marissa Veltrop, 30, of Jefferson City, was taken by ambulance to University Hospital.
