Jefferson City Center of Hope to get almost $1.5 million for emergency shelter spaces
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Jefferson City Center of Hope is getting some more funding to provide emergency shelter spaces.
The Salvation Army Midland Division announced in a Monday press release that it will receive approximately $2,031,743 in funding support from The Missouri Department of Economic Development through the American Rescue Plan Act.
This funding will be awarded in support of two of the organization's programs - the St. Louis County Family Haven ($561,060) and the Jefferson City Center of Hope ($1,470,683).
Funds will be used to provide vital emergency shelter spaces for unhoused families, and single people in their respective communities.
The Jefferson City Center of Hope is the only long-term shelter in Jefferson City and Cole County, according to the press release.
"These funds allow us a great opportunity to better utilize the existing space that we have to meet the needs of our community. We have seen an increase in families seeking shelter. These important funds will help us to provide families with their own space to heal and grow on their way back to self-sufficiency," Maj. Justin Windell, pastor/corps officer for The Salvation Army in Jefferson City, said in the press release.
