JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Two people were sent to a hospital for smoke inhalation when a fire damaged a Jefferson City home early Friday.

Firefighters were sent at about 3:30 a.m. to the 1700 block of Providence Drive in the southeast part of Jefferson City, the Jefferson City Fire Department said in a news release.

Firefighters found heavy flames coming from the one-story house and brought the fire under control quickly, according to the release. One person in the house suffered minor burns while both people inside suffered from smoke inhalation, the release says. The house sustained major fire and smoke damage.

Firefighters were at the scene for about five hours. The Missouri State Fire Marshal's Office was called in to investigate the cause, the fire department says.
