Jefferson City apartment fire displaces several people

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Jefferson City Fire Department responded to a fire at an apartment complex Tuesday afternoon.

It happened at Heritage Apartments in the 800 block of Monroe Street before 3 p.m.

Firefighters at the scene said the fire started in a kitchen. Firefighters said it was accidental. Crews rescued three cats from the home.

No one was injured, but one unit was damaged. The fire displaced six people, including four children. The fire department said the family is being helped by the American Red Cross.
