Jefferson City raises some parking meter fees

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Jefferson City Council voted Monday to raise the parking time limit and meter rate on Capitol Avenue.

The council unanimously approved raising the cost of parking at meters from the Capitol building to Madison Street. The rates will also change for meters in the 100 blocks of Madison and Jefferson streets.

Parking in those areas had been 25 cents to 50 cents per hour but the council vote changed it to $1. The change affects 145 parking spots.

The bill also changed the time limit for these locations to 10 hours. Jefferson City's public works director said this increase is in preparation for a parking app that the city hopes to launch in the next few months.

The city estimates the change will raise about $40,000 to $60,000 extra each year.
