Crash leads to large backup outside Jefferson City

Video of the backup

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A crash on Highway 54/63 near the Missouri River bridge outside Jefferson City caused a large backup Friday afternoon.

Local authorities issued an alert about the crash at about 1:30 p.m. The alert didn't specify how the crash happened or if anyone was injured.

A Missouri Department of Transportation tweet told drivers to expect significant delays southbound. The crash closed lanes, MoDOT says.

A MoDOT traffic camera showed a long line of cars backed up on the highway approaching Jefferson City.

No one was hurt in the crash, which involved two vehicles -- one of which was towing a camper, Jefferson City Police Department Lt. David Williams said.
