JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Missouri American Water will begin construction in mid-June to replace nearly 4,400 feet of aging water main along Moreland Avenue and Southwest Boulevard.

“We’re proactively investing to replace pipes that are reaching the end of their useful life to keep water flowing to our customers, to enhance fire flows for our local firefighters, and support the reliability of our water service year-round,” said Brent Haas, Manager of Operations for Missouri American Water in a release.

Missouri American Water will break the project into phases.

The Moreland Avenue project consists of installing approximately 2,100 linear feet of 8-inch PVC pipe to replace the current 6-inch ductile iron pipe on Moreland Avenue from Moreau Drive to the end of the street.

The Southwest Boulevard project consists of installing nearly 2,300 linear feet of 12-inch PVC pipe to replace the current 6-inch, 8-inch and 12-inch cast iron pipe along Southwest Boulevard just south of Missouri American Water’s Southwest Booster station near Swifts Highway to Thompson Street.

Both projects include replacing all crossings, hydrants, valves, and services within the scope of each project.

Officials say construction will take place between 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Some after-hour work may be necessary in high-traffic areas to minimize inconvenience to our customers. Final restoration is expected to be completed 90 days following the construction phase.

Weather permitting, work will be completed in August.
