JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

After receiving multiple reports of an impaired driver on Highway 63 in Jefferson City, officers located the suspect’s vehicle after it crashed in the concrete retaining wall on US Highway 54.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, however, the driver continued traveling north across the Missouri River Bridge, crossing over multiple lanes of traffic before stopping for emergency vehicles at the US Highway 54/ Route W overpass.

Officers asked the driver if a medical condition existed to explain the manner of his poor driving. In a release, investigators say the driver was impaired and under the influence.

The 22-year-old driver refused to submit to field sobriety tests and was taken into custody. A subsequent search located more than 2 pounds of marijuana inside the vehicle. A search warrant was obtained to determine his intoxication level.

The 22-year-old male suspect is in custody at the Cole County Jail awaiting formal charges.
