One person was arrested Wednesday night at 11:16 after a situation involving a handgun was investigated on the 400 block of Clark Avenue in Jefferson City.

Jefferson City police report the victim and suspect were no longer in the area after officers arrived.

The caller talking with dispatch identified a residence involved in the situation and officers established a perimeter outside the building and attempted to contact the occupants. Several spent casings were found in the area. Officials say the residents of the home arrived and advised the suspect was no longer in the residence.

Officers identified the suspect and went to his last known address on the 400 block of Hutton Lane. Police reported the suspect was at the location and took the suspect into custody.

After getting a search warrant, investigators found a Smith and Wesson 9 mm handgun and ammunition consistent with those recovered earlier was found. A records check indicated the handgun had been stolen from St. Louis, Missouri.
