JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Cole County judge handed over five East Capitol Avenue properties to the local housing authority last week.

The Jefferson City Housing Authority will take over the properties at 413-415 E. Capitol Ave., 417 E. Capitol Ave., 419 E. Capitol Ave., 517 E. Capitol Ave., and 519 E. Capitol Ave., after Judge Daniel Green's judgment entered Friday.

The properties are owned by Barbara Buescher, who has been at legal odds with the city over dozens of abandoned properties for years. A list of abandoned Jefferson City properties updated in November includes 19 Buescher properties.

A three-member, court-appointed commission will now determine how much money to award Buescher for the properties. The city has dozens of tax liens posted on its website for costs incurred for work at Buescher's properties.

The judgment was entered in default, and no attorney was listed for Buescher in online court records.

The housing authority did not respond to a request for comment late Thursday.

Housing authority leaders have said they're working toward reclaiming every abandoned property in the city for redevelopment.
