Mid-Missourians donate thousands of pounds of food during 12-hour food drive
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
People donated thousands of pounds of food Wednesday during the One for One Holiday Food and Fund Drive for The Food Bank for Central and North East Missouri.
The Networks of Mid-Missouri partnered with the Zimmer Radio Group to host the 12-hour food drive.
The event was held from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. One of the collection sites was at the Columbia Mall. The other was in Jefferson City at the Orscheln Farm & Home on Missouri Boulevard.
According to the Food Bank, the region collected a total of $61,644 in preliminary donations, with the Jefferson City site bringing in $9,500. A total of 7,000 pounds of food were also collected across both locations.
Millayana Hays, a Jefferson City resident, says her family is always willing to help if they can. Hays stopped by the Orscheln site.
"Any way that we can still help and pass it forward even if it's just a dollar or just a simple healthy you know meal whatever we can do," said Hays.
Chase Wyckwood also chose to donate during the food drive. Wyckwood said he worked for the Food Bank in the past for two years but works at a different non-profit now.
"I know how important it is, the mission that they have and working for another non profit here in our community, you know, we believe in supporting each other through the missions that we have. We each have something to do to give back, so we all support in that way," Wyckwood said.
Jami Wade, Regional Coordinator for the Food Bank, said the organization can always count on Jefferson City as a community and the community didn't let her down on Wednesday.
