JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Four people were hurt in a pileup involving a dump truck Monday morning in Jefferson City.

The crash happened just before 8 a.m. at Lorenzo Green Drive and Route B in southeast Jefferson City. Police say a Toyota Tacoma that was waiting to turn from southbound Route B suddenly left the turn lane, causing a Chevrolet TrailBlazer to hit the Tacoma from behind. The Tacoma ended up in the northbound lanes of Route B, where it was hit head-on by a dump truck, police said.

The dump truck continued on to crash head-on into a Ford Escape that was waiting to turn off of Route B.

Three drivers, including the dump truck driver, were taken to a hospital by ambulance. The other driver was taken for medical treatment in a private vehicle, police said.

Traffic was rerouted for about an hour for the cleanup and investigation, police said.
