Former Jefferson City firefighter announces run for Jefferson City 3rd Ward Council

A former Jefferson City firefighter has announced his run for the Jefferson City 3rd Ward Council vacant seat.

Scott Spencer, a Rescue Squad Captain on the Jefferson City Fire Department for 25 years had a medical retirement in 2018.

Spencer now works as an account specialist at at a marketing firm.

Recently, Spencer served on the Cole and Miller County Long Term Recovery Committee to help with the needs of the tornado and flood victims.

“My goal is to focus on public safety, infrastructure and economic development needs of our community. I served my community as a Fire Captain with commitment and compassion and I will bring those same qualities to the residents of the 3rd Ward.” Spencer said. “I look forward to engaging the residents and listening to their issues and concerns.”

Ken Hussey is currently serving his fourth and final term due to term limits in the 3rd Ward. His seat will be open in the April election. Council members may serve four two-year terms for a total of eight years.

Residents Mary Schantz has filed to run for the 3rd ward seat.

Schantz says she wants to improve Jefferson City and make it a place people can grow up in and raise their families.
