Jefferson City seeks input on Missouri State Penitentiary redevelopment plans
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
Jefferson City leaders want the public's input on two redevelopment proposals for part of the historic Missouri State Penitentiary site.
One of the proposals was submitted by the Chesterfield Hotels/Arcturis Team. Their plan seeks to divide the area up into four sections which would include a new convention center along with an adjacent 150-room Tapestry by Hilton hotel, ice arena and parking garage.
The other proposal is from Farmer Companies. It includes two options, the first of which features an athletic complex and a convention center. The second option includes a veterans memorial park and convention center.
Jefferson City officials are seeking public input on the plans on the city's website. Survey results will be accepted through May 25.
In a Facebook post, Jefferson City Mayor Carrie Tergin said the input provided will guide the city's decision. The Facebook post also said residents can submit comments about the proposals.
The city originally received five redevelopment plans but narrowed the field of proposals in December. Missouri lawmakers in 2017 approved a bill that allowed Jefferson City to redevelop a portion of the site.
