‘Serious incident’ in Jefferson City was false alarm

KMIZ VEDIT

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A suspected chemical fire prompted the Jefferson City Fire Department to issue a public warning Thursday but turned out to be a false alarm.

The Jefferson City Fire Department posted on social media just after 9:30 a.m. Thursday that police, fire and medics were sent to Truman Boulevard and Schumate Chapel. The post advised people to avoid the area for a few hours.

The incident was a suspected chemical fire but firefighters determined a tank of soap was releasing vapor, not smoke, the fire department later said. No one was at risk, the department said.

The department said in a Facebook post that no other details will be released.
