Driver killed in Jefferson City crash

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A driver was killed in a crash Monday afternoon in Jefferson City.

The Jefferson City Police Department said the crash happened after 1:15 p.m. in the 1200 block of Highway 54 West.

According to a news release, the vehicle was driving westbound when it approached a slower-moving vehicle. Police said the driver tried to swerve out of the path of the slower vehicle, but lost control.

The vehicle struck a center concrete divider and rolled over several times, police said. According to the release, the driver was thrown from the vehicle and was not wearing a seat belt.

Police said the driver was taken to the hospital and later died of their injuries.

Police said they have identified the driver, but will not release the person's name until the victim's family can be notified.

According to the release, the road was shut down for about two hours.
