JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Jefferson City Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 700 block of East High Street on Thursday afternoon.

"We arrived on scene, heavy fire and smoke showing from the front of the building," Turner said. "We attempted an aggressive offensive attack and immediately went into a defensive operation."

Division Chief Jason Turner said it took crews about an hour and a half to get the fire under control. He said no injuries were reported.

Crews plan to remain on scene throughout the evening to make sure no flames return, he said.

Turner said about 30 firefighters worked to put out the fire and the state fire marshal is expected to arrive on scene Thursday evening to investigate the cause of the fire.
