Jefferson City chase ends in crash with police cars
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
Jefferson City police arrested a man on outstanding warrants after a brief chase and short hostage situation Wednesday afternoon.
Jefferson City police Lt. David Williams said officers tried to stop Samuel Allen, 42, of Jefferson City in the 1200 block of Stadium Boulevard. Police suspected Allen had a warrant out for his arrest.
Allen refused to stop, and police chased him. Allen allegedly went in reverse and hit pursuing police vehicles before he then tried to pull forward, and his car was disabled, according to a news release from the Jefferson City Police Department.
Allen had a small child in his vehicle and did not immediately surrender or let police inside the vehicle to get the child, Williams said. Allen began using the child as a "shield" to avoid being taken into custody, police said. Allen relented after a brief negotiation, and he released the child unharmed, Williams said.
Police arrested Allen and turned the child over to its mother, Williams said. An investigation determined Allen had outstanding warrants, and more charges are possible in connection with the chase, he said.
Allen was arrested on suspicion of property damage, second-degree assault, first-degree endangering the welfare of a child, resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia and careless and reckless driving.
