Jefferson City woman suffers severe injuries in pedestrian crash

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Jefferson City woman suffered serious injuries when a car hit her as she crossed the street Friday morning.

The Jefferson City Police Department said Kristi Phelps, 27, was crossing Highway 179 against a red light at West Edgewood Drive when a Ford Focus driven by a Jefferson City man struck her. Police said a flashing "don't walk" indicator was active when the car hit Phelps just before 7 a.m.

An ambulance took Phelps to University Hospital in Columbia with injuries police called severe.
