Two women hurt after crashing scooter on Howard County highway

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Two Fayette women suffered serious injuries Monday afternoon when their scooter crashed into an SUV on a highway in Howard County.

Hope Chappel, 20, was driving the Yamaha Vino on Highway 124 at Route H when she crossed the center line and hit a Chevrolet Traverse head-on a little after 1 p.m., according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report.

Chappel and her passenger, Charlea Winscott, 19, were thrown from the scooter, the patrol reported. Both women were taken by ambulance to University Hospital in Columbia.

The SUV driver was not hurt but the vehicle was towed from the scene.

Chappel and Winscott are students at Central Methodist University. Chappel is listed on the women's golf team roster.
