WHAT’S GOING AROUND: Flu cases remain common while COVID-19 and RSV continue to decline

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

MU Health Care

Dr. Laura Morris with MU Health Care says cases of the flu are still common but cases have peaked and have started to slow down.

As far as respiratory viruses, Morris says cases are slowing some, which follows seasonal trends.

RSV peaked over the holidays, Morris said, and COVID-19 is steady at low levels and remains manageable at their facilities.

Boone Health in Columbia

Dr. Robin Blount says locally, COVID-19 and RSV cases are fewer in number.

However, she says the flu is still prominent.

Right now at Boone Health, Blount says there are about 18 to 25 patients on respiratory isolation at any given time. Blount says doctors are hoping cases have peaked for respiratory viruses and will continue to decline over the next few weeks.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says currently, 14 states are experiencing high or very high flu activity, while Missouri's remains at a moderate level.

For viruses that are the more prevalent, the CDC reports the flu has the highest positivity rate at 15.4% while positivity rates for COVID-19 and RSV continue to decrease across the country.
