MU Health Care has reached an agreement with hospitals in Moberly and Kirksville that will expand its presence to northeast Missouri.

The partnership will bring MU Health Care doctors and services to Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville and to Moberly Regional Medical Center, MU Health Care said in a news release Tuesday. The arrangement will expand the services the Kirksville and Moberly hospitals can offer, according to MU Health.

MU Health doctors were already staffing the emergency department in Moberly and providing neonatal consultation to doctors in northeast Missouri.

An executive for Community Health Systems, which owns the Moberly and Kirksville hospitals, praised the deal in a prepared statement.

“Moberly and Kirksville residents will have all the advantages that come with partnering with a premier academic health system that offers leading edge medical care as well as a shared promise that we will deliver – better healthcare for every patient,” Charles Cova, a regional president with Community Health Systems, said in the news release.

MU Health Care Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs Nim Chinniah said the partnership expands health care access in rural Missouri.
