Former Hallsville mayor dies in Sunday crash

HALLSVILLE, Mo. (KMIZ)

The former mayor of Hallsville died Sunday after a crash on Highway 124.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report says the crash happened between Gano Chance Road and Union Church Road just after nine on Sunday.

Troopers said 73-year-old Carl South from Hallsville was driving when he crossed the center line went off the side of the road hitting a tree.

He was taken to University Hospital where he died.

According to online records South served as the mayor of Hallsville for fifteen years and on the Hallsville School Board for nine.

A visitation will be held Thursday at Red Top Christian Church at four.

Funeral services will follow at six at the church.

Donations are suggested to the Hallsville Historical Society.
