FULTON, Mo. (KMIZ)

The former CEO of Fulton Medical Center said Thursday that he has been fired, effective immediately.

Mike Reece said he got word Thursday from NueHealth, the privately-owned health care company based in Leawood, Kansas, that owns the hospital. Reece said he had heard rumors that he would be fired in recent weeks and that he is considering legal action.

Reece told ABC 17 News this week that the financially troubled hospital had paid off about $3 million in debt over the past 18 months. Reece said the hospital owes the IRS about $3 million but expressed optimism in his interview with ABC 17 News that the hospital could pay off the debt.

NueHealth did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
