3 homes catch fire at Lake of the Ozarks

ELDON, Mo. (KMIZ)

Three homes at the Lake of the Ozarks caught fire on Friday afternoon, according to an email from the Lake Ozark Fire Protection District.

Fire crews were called at 12:44 p.m. for a report of a house fire in an area off of Route W in Eldon.

Firefighters found three residences on fire and crews have asked residents to avoid the area. A firefighter on the scene said there were no injuries and that the cause of the fire is not known.

All the homes affected by the fire were vacation properties and no one was inside at the time, according to Lake Ozark Fire Protection District Chief Jerry Blomberg.

It took roughly two hours to bring the fire under control. No fire hydrants were available, so crews had to use water wells and a fire boat to use water from the lake.

“Obviously, water is an issue here. We don't have hydrants. The fire boat is a great asset that helped us out a lot. We did have to do a water shuttle with tankers to get water back here. " Terrain is obviously a factor as well, just access to these buildings," Blomberg said. "So we were resource-limited from the beginning until we got the rest of our mutual aid partners here.”

The fire led to a power outage that was quickly restored by Ameren.

A press release from LOFPD says about $1 million in damage was reported.
