No injuries reported in Cole County fire

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

No injuries were reported in a building fire Wednesday afternoon in the 4000 block of Wardsville Road in Cole County, according to a social media post from the Osage Fire Protection District.

Firefighters were called to the scene at 2:04 p.m. and crews stayed until 5:30 p.m., the post says. Crews from the Jefferson City Fire Department and Cole County Fire Protection District were also called to the fire.

“Strong winds and gusting conditions contributed to multiple natural cover fires in the surrounding area, further complicating firefighting operations. Additional resources were requested to assist in extinguishing the natural cover fires, which were brought under control at 3:17 PM.,” the post says.

The American Red Cross was requested to help residents impacted by the fire, the post says.

“The Osage Fire Protection District urges residents to exercise caution and avoid burning during RED FLAG conditions. High winds and dry conditions can cause fires to spread rapidly, endangering lives and property. Please stay informed of weather conditions and follow local burn bans and safety guidelines,” the post says.

A wind advisory and a red flag warning was issued for Mid-Missouri on Wednesday, prompting the ABC 17 News Stormtrack Weather Team to declare it a Weather Alert Day.
