STURGEON, Mo. (KMIZ)

Firefighters were on the scene Friday afternoon at a building fire in the 4300 block of East Gordon Road near Sturgeon.

Boone County Fire Protection District Firefighter Wayne Cummins said no one was in the building at the time of the fire and no injuries have been reported. The roof of the building collapsed and crews had to pull out of the building. Firefighters are still working on putting out the fire.

An ABC 17 News photographer saw flames and smoke coming from the building, along with six firetrucks, three Boone County Fire Protection District mobile vehicles and an ambulance.

The fire was contained around 5:30 p.m. and firefighters remained on scene to fight hot spots.

The owner of the building said it was shop that he built in 1988 that had tools and equipment inside. Boone County Fire Protection District Assistant Chief Gale Blomenkamp said the building was considered a total loss.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
