ASHLAND, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Southern Boone County Fire Protection District is asking residents to refrain from burning while high winds are in the area on Thursday.

Firefighters are currently responding to a wildfire near South David Sapp Road and Old Route A in Hartsburg, according to the department's Facebook page. The department referred to the fire at that intersection as a serious situation.

"We’re sure you’ve noticed how windy it is. Please refrain from burning. We'd like for no one to have fire damage at their property. We’d also like to keep our volunteers home and safe," another post reads.

"Multiple SBCFPD apparatuses and SBCFPD personnel are responding to a wildland fire in the area of South David Sapp Road and Old Route A in Hartsburg. Please avoid the area to allow emergency vehicles access to the scene," the post reads.

Southern Boone Fire had responded and extinguished another fire in Hartsburg earlier in the day near f East Eagle Trace and South Belfry Court. The department first reported the fire on social media at 11:54 a.m.
