Part of wheel suspected to be cause of trailer, hay bale fire in Boone County
BOONE COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)
Part of a wheel on a trailer is believed to be the cause of a trailer and hay bale fire on Nov. 1.
Boone County Fire Protection District officials told ABC 17 they believe the fire was started when a wheel bearing overheated. A wheel bearing connects the wheel to the axle.
Boone County firefighters were called to north Highway 63 and Lake Road at 4:05 p.m. on Wednesday for a report of a vehicle fire.
Firefighters arrived on the scene to find the trailer and more than 15 hay bales and the trailer on fire. Both were considered a total loss, but the truck was saved.
No injuries were reported.
Yesterday at 4:05 p.m. Boone County Fire Protection District Firefighters were dispatched to north highway 63 northbound and Lake Road for a vehicle fire. Units arrived on scene to find a trailer hauling large round hay bales with heavy fire evolvement.

Assistant Fire Chief Chuck Leake told ABC 17 at the scene the ongoing drought contributed to the fire because of how dry conditions are across the state.
Leake also said crews put out two small fires along Highway 63 that were caused by the hay.
He said with the help from the owner of the truck and neighbors to keep the fire from spreading, this included moving the hay bales after they were extinguished and moved to a nearby pond.
