COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Boone County Fire Protection District put out a car fire in east Columbia Friday morning. However, a spokesman said the driver was "nowhere around" upon arrival.

Fire officials and the Columbia Police Department were called to Route WW and South Rolling Hills Road in southeast Columbia around 12:45 a.m.

Gale Blomenkamp, the spokesman for BCFPD, said one vehicle was involved in a crash and was engulfed in flames when crews arrived.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire, but the driver was nowhere to be found.

A police spokesman said there was no additional information at this time in CPD's portion of the investigation but that more details may become available later.
