Early morning house fire burns hole in roof

ABC 17 News

MEXICO, Mo. (KMIZ)

Mexico firefighters say an early morning house fire burned a hole in a roof.

A release from the Mexico Public Safety Department said crews responded to the house in the 500 block of S. Washington Street around 1:59 a.m.

Crews reported flames were behind walls and above the ceiling on the second floor of the home. The fire was contained and extinguished quickly, firefighters said.

No one was hurt in the fire, however, the house had smoke and water damage, the release said.

Residents told firefighters the furnace had shut off and tripped the circuit breaker. The residents said smoke was coming from behind the wall when they checked the circuit box. It's unclear from the release what caused the fire.
