One man dies in Jefferson City house fire

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

One person was transported to a local hospital after a house fire in Jefferson City.

Steven A. Davis, 35, later died from his injuries sustained in the fire.

According to a news release from the Jefferson City Fire Department, firefighters responded shortly after 4 a.m. Sunday to the 800 block of Mulberry Street.

Crews arrived to heavy smoke and fire.

A witness told authorities at the scene that there was someone possibly inside the home.

It is estimated to have caused $75,000 in damages. An investigation into the fire found that it began in the laundry area of the home.

The Jefferson City Police Department and Cole County EMS also responded to the incident. In total, 16 fire personnel responded with JCFD.
