Martens appointed as University of Missouri provost, executive vice chancellor

The University of Missouri announced on Monday that System President Mun Choi appointed Matthew Martens to be its next provost and executive vice chancellor.
Martens was named the interim provost after Latha Ramchand left in February to become the executive vice president and chancellor of Indiana University-Indianapolis. He was previously the senior vice provost.
According to the release, the provost and executive vice chancellor is the chief academic officer for the university and oversees faculty development and support as well as undergraduate, graduate and professional education.
Martens will continue his role in the MizzouForward initiative to hire and retain faculty and staff, and invest in faculty and student success programs, the release says. Martens is leading MU’s Higher Learning Commission accreditation activities and preparing for the university’s next comprehensive evaluation in 2025, according to the release.
According to the release, Martens received a bachelor’s degree from Boston College, a master’s degree from the University of North Carolina and a doctorate in educational and counseling psychology from the University of Missouri. Martens previously had academic appointments at State University of New York at Albany and the University of Memphis before returning to MU in 2009.
