Search continues for missing University of Missouri student with boats, drone

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The search continued Thursday for the University of Missouri student who went missing in Nashville over the weekend with police going out in boats and taking to the air.

The Metro Nashville Police Department has been searching for 22-year-old Riley Strain with helicopters and boats but has not been found. The department shared photos and video of its water search, which was apparently unproductive, on social media on Thursday.

Police used sonar on the water and a drone to sweep the bank, they said in a news conference. Others checked abandoned buildings and a storm drain. Police also talked to people who live in the area.

Strain was on a trip with his Delta Chi fraternity brothers when he went missing Friday night in Downtown Nashville. He was kicked out of Luke Bryan's bar, Luke's 32 Bridge, before he disappeared, according to a Nashville police missing persons report.

Video from Nashville Police shows Strain on Gay Street around 9:30 p.m. Friday. Strain can be seen stumbling in the video.

He was last seen wearing brown boots, blue jeans, and a black and white button-up shirt.

Strain's family says his friends spoke with him on the phone, and he said he was going back to the hotel. Strain's hotel key was still in the envelope.

Friends of Strain searched the area his phone last pinged at but he was nowhere to be found.

University of Missouri and Nashville police are asking anyone with information on Strain's disappearance to share it.

This is currently an open investigation. The Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission is now looking into whether Strain was over-served at the bar.

Wednesday, a candlelight vigil was held in Strain's hometown of Springfield, Missouri, showing support for the Strain family.
