University of Missouri hosts Tiger Walk amidst high temperatures

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Today, The University of Missouri held it's annual Tiger Walk amidst the heat, and students braved the heat to celebrate an age old tradition.

With dangerous highs ABC 17 spoke to students about how they stayed cool.

"We beat the heat by drinking a lot of water preparing for the event, but it's all a ton of fun." Incoming freshman Aidan Berkowitz said.

At events like this, Assistant Fire Chief Gale Blomenkamp wants to remind people to look out for each other.

"Understand and lookout for each other when you are at these types of events and those types of areas because nobody wants that type of event to turn sour," Blomenkamp said.

With the start of the school year approaching for MU, Blomenkamp also wants to remind students to take frequent breaks in air conditioned areas.

"You know short work periods - play periods. Take a look at the person next to you if they look like they are overheating get them to some shade or a cooler environment," Blomenkamp said.
