A president of a public hospital system in Wisconsin was named Wednesday as the new CEO of MU Health Care.

Ric Ransom was most recently the president of the University of Wisconsin Hospitals in the Madison Region. He started there as vice president in 2018, according to an MU Health Care news release.

Ransom spent nearly two decades in health care leadership before that and has held positions in several major cities. He has degrees from Morehouse College, Cumberland School of Law and the University of Alabama.

Ranson said in a statement that he feels MU Health "is on a strong growth trajectory."

MU Health is one of Mid-Missouri's largest employers with more than 6,000 workers.

He replaces Jonathan Curtright, who left in July for the University of Oklahoma health system.
