Closing date set for Manor House at University of Missouri
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The University of Missouri will close the Manor House graduate student apartments Aug. 22, a spokesman said Wednesday.
The university told the approximately 75 residents this fall of its plans to close the apartment building on Hitt Street. The move drew criticism from the Coalition of Graduate Workers, a group that advocates for graduate student causes on campus.
The university cited a backlog of repairs that the building needs in its decision to close and demolish Manor House. MU says it will cover costs for students moving into other university housing and allow some to move into the Tara apartments. MU says it will also provide help for those moving off-campus.
The coalition praised those steps in a news release but decried what it says is the loss of housing for graduate students since 2014 -- when another apartment complex was evacuated and later torn down after a walkway collapsed. The organization pledged to fight for the restoration of lost graduate student housing.
