University of Missouri announces federal funding for students in need

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The University of Missouri released information for students Friday to apply for grants that can be used for educational costs including tuition, child care, health care and food.

The Federal Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) III grants are part of American Rescue Plan funding tied to the coronavirus pandemic.

The money can be used for educational and other emergency costs spurred by the pandemic. Students may be reimbursed for tuition, food, housing, health care (including mental health) or child care.

All students enrolled at least half-time for the fall 2021 term who have not already received an automatic HEERF III grant may apply for the emergency student funding.

Domestic students must have a completed 2021-22 FAFSA on file with MU, while international students who can't complete the FAFSA may still apply but will be required to answer and/or submit additional financial information.

Students can apply starting Oct. 15 and may be awarded up to $1,500 based on need. The HEERF III application link will be posted here for students to begin applying.

Applications will be reviewed beginning Oct. 22.
