COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The University of Missouri Board of Curators voted Thursday to name a new state-of-the-art health research center for U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt.

The UM System announced Thursday morning that the NextGen Precision Health building will be named the Roy Blunt NextGen Precision Health Building. Blunt, who is part of the Senate's Republican leadership, has been a Missouri secretary of state and a U.S. representative in addition to his 10 years in the Senate.

Blunt is not seeking reelection in 2022.

The NextGen health institute is a $221 million project that has been hailed as a centerpiece in the university's push to increase its research profile. The university calls the 265,000-square-foot institute the "single largest research investment on campus."

The health institute building is being constructed on the MU campus near University Hospital. It is scheduled to open this fall.
