MU student removed from campus for harassment, alleged use of racial slur

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

University of Missouri student affairs is reporting a student was removed from campus after an overnight incident involving harassment and the alleged use of a racial slur.

According to a release by Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Bill Stackman, MU police responded to a report of an intoxicated student harassing two other students through a closed door, allegedly using a racial slur.

University of Missouri Police Department report arresting Cal Gerhardt, 19, early Thursday morning on three charges after the MU student was twice reported harassing and banging on the door of an individual who lives in a residential hall on campus.

According to MU’s student conduct process, the student has been removed from campus pending the outcome of the investigation.

The students that were being harassed are receiving support from the university after the incident.

Stackman says, "As leaders on this campus, we want to make it clear that harassing behavior will be confronted at Mizzou as we strive to uphold our university’s value of Respect. We are committed to the safety, security and well-being of everyone on our campus, and we are working every day to create an inclusive environment in which every student feels valued."

The case has been turned over to the Boone County Prosecutor’s office.
