Lincoln University breaks ground on new institute

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Lincoln University broke ground on a new building Thursday that it hopes will improve health education.

University and government officials came together to mark the start of construction on the Health and Security Sciences Institute. The institute will bring together Lincoln's nursing and law enforcement programs to focus on crisis response.

Missouri Gov. Mike Parson was among the people who attended the ceremony on Lincoln's campus.

"I think the next governor will probably take a different look on Lincoln University than what maybe they have in the past," Parson told ABC 17 News. "And I think, look, this is gonna be a great facility. Why not build something else? Why not give kid here the same benefits they get anywhere else?"

The institute will be about 40,000 square feet.
