Hackers targeting Mexico School District No. 59 took control of the district's Facebook page.

According to a news release, the district was the subject of a phishing scam. School officials said the intrusion started with a staff member's personal account, which the perpetrators used to gain access to the district page.

Hackers then removed administrative privileges for the page from Mexico School District personnel, locking school officials out of the account.

The district said all other data and systems are secure, and the hackers did not access any student or employee information.

School officials said in the release they contacted the district's cybersecurity team and made several reports to Facebook about the incident. The district said Facebook has "failed to provide a meaningful response or support."
