Columbia Board of Education looking to address over-enrollment at area schools

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Columbia Board of Education and Columbia Public Schools want to address over-enrollment at area schools.

Phase 1 will address Parkade Elementary School’s attendance area as enrollment is currently overcapacity.  Phase 1 changes will be implemented this fall.  Phase 2 will address the remaining elementary attendance areas with implementation planned for 2022-23.

According to CPS, town halls are planned for April 13th, 14th, and 15th to talk about the capacity issues at Gentry Middle School, Jefferson STEAM Middle School and Lange Middle school.

All three town halls are scheduled to happen between five in the afternoon to nine o'clock at night.

A public survey on possible attendance area change options will be available beginning April 13 and will close on April 20.

The school district hopes to adjust its attendance areas with feedback for the 2022 to 2023 school year.

A public survey will also be posted to the school district's website on April 13th.
