Charges filed against Hickman student accused of bringing gun to school
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A Hickman High School student has been charged after police say he brought a gun to school on Monday.
Shaun Lamont Jackson, 18, of Columbia, was charged on Tuesday with unlawful use of a weapon and misdemeanor marijuana possession. He was arrested on Monday and was released after posting a $2,000 bond. An initial court appearance is set for 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, at the Boone County Courthouse.
According to the probable cause statement, a staff member told police that Jackson was “believed to be armed at school.” The staff member allegedly showed video of Jackson pointing a gun at a camera while in the backseat of a vehicle, the statement says. Police also saw Jackson and another student wearing the same clothing on school security footage, the statement says.
The statement says the video was likely taken during a lunch period from 10:30-11 a.m. and police were informed about Jackson possibly having a gun at 12:20 p.m.
An officer asked Jackson to follow him to the north office of the school, the statement says, and Jackson allegedly complied. Police asked for the backpack and a school security asked Jackson if there was anything in the backpack he shouldn’t have had, the statement says.
Jackson allegedly admitted that he had a gun and weed in the backpack. Police found the gun, weed and 14 rounds of ammunition loaded in a magazine, the statement says..
