Columbia Board of Education approves new version of SRO agreement
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Columbia Board of Education on Friday approved a new version of its school resource officer agreement with the Columbia Police.
The board took it up after the city's legal department made some suggestions following Monday's vote.
It now goes to the City Council for approval on Tuesday, Sept. 5.
Deputy City Manager Mike Griggs said the city is working with the school district to provide some SRO assistance until the contract is approved by the council.
CPD said in a Friday night press release that it will have SROs at Battle, Rock Bridge and Hickman high schools on the first day of school.
Tuesday is the first day of class for Columbia Public Schools.
"We’ve planned since the end of last year for SROs to continue to be in schools and we’ll continue to staff that as intended while the contract makes it through the formal approval process," Interim Police Chief Matt Stephens said in a press relase.
