Columbia Public School Foundation awards $100 grants to new CPS teachers

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Columbia Public School Foundation awarded new teachers with a $100 grant to prepare for the new school year during a Wednesday breakfast at Gentry Middle School.

It's part of the Foundation’s new program - new educator grants, this award is for first time teachers as well as teacher who are new to the school district.

About 300 grants – in the form of gift cards – were given to teachers.

"And that is theirs to spend, to set up their classroom,” CPSF Executive Director Katie Harris said. “Our board understands how much teachers have to dig into their own pockets to help set up a classroom or help a student in need. And this was our way of saying thank you to the teachers for all that they do for our students."
