COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Columbia Public Schools Superintendent Brian Yearwood is expected to present an achievement update along with goals for the district at the Board of Education meeting Monday night, according to the agenda.

According to meeting documents, Yearwood is hoping to improve attendance and MAP testing scores, and lower out-of-school suspensions.

The 2022-2023 school year resulted in 79.2% attendance rate. Yearwood hopes that by the 2026-2027 school year, 90% of students will attend school 90% of the time. The rate should increase by 5% each year.

In the 2022-2023 school year, there were 3,294 total out-of-school suspensions.

Yearwood wants the number of out-of-school suspensions to decrease 50% by the 2026-2027 school year.

Starting in the 2023-2024 school year, Yearwood wants students who are proficient or advanced on the MAP test to increase by 3% each year in communication arts and mathematics.

Yearwood highlights iReady results show the district is on track to meet or exceed last year's MAP scores, 90/90 attendance is higher than last year, and out-of-school suspensions are lower than they were 10 years ago.
