Boone County is seeing unprecedented numbers of new coronavirus cases as the omicron variant spreads across the state.

The county reported more than 300 new cases Tuesday, pushing active cases to nearly 1,300. The state logged more than 5,500 new confirmed cases.

Columbia Public Schools began classes Tuesday without a mask mandate after the school board removed it amid pressure from some parents and the Missouri attorney general. But some parents are calling for the mandate to come back.
